Tirol Touristica is a tourism prize awarded by Tirol Werbung at the Tourism Forum for outstanding tourism projects. The award is presented to projects that embody the province's new tourism strategy, the Tirolean Way and its guiding principles. A Young Talent prize will also be awarded for the first time this year. The award ceremony took place on 24th May 2022 at Congresspark Igls.

Tirol is one of the oldest and most successful tourist regions in the world. This is due not least to the entrepreneurial spirit, innovation and drive of the people involved in Tirolean tourism.  Success, however, is also based on the ability to continually adapt to new circumstances and evolve.

In this context, Tirol Touristica was relaunched in 2021 after a Corona-related break and will be awarded again in 2022. Winning criteria is based on "The Tyrolean Way” tourism strategy, which places a strong focus on sustainability. Projects and initiatives are therefore sought that comply with these these criteria to a high degree.

The next Tirol Touristica will be awarded in 2023.

"Guat´z Essen": This means "Good Food" and that doesn't just sound good, it literally is. Peter Fankhauser's concept of running a vegetarian-vegan restaurant from his own permaculture is unique in the German-speaking Alpine region.

The restaurant uses only regional products and 80 per cent of its own home-grown vegetables. The Gault Millau gourmet guide awarded Guat'z Essen three toques in 2022, thus allowing it to claim the title of the second best purely vegetarian restaurant in Austria.

In future, an even greater focus will be placed on sustainability in its ecological, economic and social dimensions. This is based on the revised tourism strategy The Tirolean Way, which was presented in 2021. The Tirolean Way provides four guiding principles for sustainable tourism development:

  • Living & Recreation Space
  • Sustainability & Regionality
  • Family Businesses & Consummate Hosts
  • Competence & Innovation Leadership

Criteria used by Tirol Touristica is based on these guidelines, and the award thus places a spotlight on the projects that contribute to the sustainable development of the province.

In doing so, Tirol Werbung would like to say "thank you" for the outstanding projects and initiatives that have already been implemented along the Tirolean Way in tourism. At the same time, it is intended to trigger a powerful incentive within the industry to continue to move forward with confidence and innovative strength and to further develop the province in a balance of economic, ecological and social sustainability.

The Tirol Touristica Award will be presented again in 2023.
